Yahoo Launched video search service

Yahoo launched a new video search tool (which shamlessly mimics Google -- too bad, as it just draws attention to the fact that Google whups their butt)

Oh. Dear. God. As if I didn't have enough media distractions already.

Entering random words, I have uncovered:
  • A punk song with their video in the style of Hey Mickey! (Real Player needed)
  • A naked basketball player (naughty bits pixelated) and the revulsion of the opponents (QuickTime needed)
Cripes. Dangerous stuff.

Nightmare: Holocaust

Last night was fraught with poor sleep. I dreamt I was on a camping trip, and for some reason we were in a very large, new house that was completely empty. I was with a spunky, young woman I used to work with at Ogilvy -- Liz -- and we were near the window in sleeping bags. I looked at the window and saw dawn break. I pointed to Liz and said, "Look how fast the sun rises!" and the I traced the light go up in the sky. And then I realized it wasn't the sun, but instead the flaming plume of a rocket.

The rocket went up in the air, but then it started to turn back down the ground. I watched it, as it hit the ground, and I saw the light build and turn all colors to white. I ducked down, tucked up against the wall underneath the window. Then the blast washed over me. I felt the thud of the shock wave, like getting kicked in the stomach. Glass, dust and wood rushed past me. The world howled and whistled building into a roar. And I still kept my eyes closed as the debris fell.

I got up, and started looking for iodized salt to try to ward off against the radiation sickness. I took a big box of salt and headed out.
---------
The dream was so vivid and real -- I kept playing the explosion over in my mind again and again. The sounds, the impact, light that made everything go pale around me.

It was 1:45 am and I kept waking up during the night.

I never know what my dreams mean.

Styrofoam

A recent find at Virgin Mega Store (a truly dangerous place for me) has turned out quite well. I picked up a cd from the amalgam band Styrofoam made up of Arne van Petegem and numbers of other bands (Ben Gibbard - Postal Service / Death Cab for Cutie), Markus Acher (Notwist (who I am really digging these days) and Lali Puna) and Valerie Trebeljahr (Lali Puna) among others.

The album is called Nothing's Lost (
Amazon Link - If you like this song, buy the CD!) which -- now that I think of it -- dovetails with my CD compilation I did for Frank called "All Is Not Lost." This sort of music seems to be engineered to push my buttons -- some of it is in a minor key, haunting lyricist (although I haven't figured out what all the lyrics are at this point) and just enough blippiness to make it pop-ish. Anyway, take a listen to the sprawling, swirling "Make it Mine" (8.4 MB | 9:15 | AAC Format -- Quicktime should handle it)
