This is why I am a liberal

A photography student taking pictures of a bridge and a lock was harassed and treated as a potential terrorist. The implied racism is bad. The weird, over-protective security paranoia is bad. But the most chilling and worst part about the whole incident is that by standing up for his rights just brought more and more heat and pressure against him, which just makes me so frustrated. The police could do whatever they wanted and in the face of multiple armed police, the reality is powerlessness.

The Patriot Act must go.

Worst super-power in the world

Patrick once mentioned to me that there was a comic book character who's super-power was that she had every power that no one had ever thought of before - but as soon as someone thought of it, it went away. So she could commune with worms or other weird, obscure powers.

For some reason that stuck with me, and I was thinking about lame super-powers, and the worst one I can think of would be able to see all the things that almost didn't happen but be unable to change anything.

For example, my workout partner Tom was driving and a CTA bus plowed into a car two cars ahead of him, totaling the car. 30 seconds faster, and that would have been him. Imagine, being able to see all the things that almost did happen, time shift +/- 45 seconds, move something around +/- 10 feet and imagine the possibilities, the catastrophes. Seeing them all, all the possibilities, as events unfold, unable to change anything.

That would drive you insane.

What would be the worst super-power you can think of?

It's Accomplished

Well, not really. One of the great, um, benefits of being a home owner is that it is always a work in progress. As Casey is finding out it is a whole new world. Well, the house in PSP is mostly done. 90% of the furniture is there (save the rugs for the living room / dining room) and one more chair we want to get. It turned out very much like what we thought it would be like and are very pleased. I have taken to spending time in the pool, prone on my blue floaty thingee. (Yay privacy hedges!). I have figured out that I can easily fit the floaty in the hot tub, get the jets going and bob around like a potato in a boiling pot of water. This is where you will probably find me for big chunks of time this winter. (Note to self: can you waterproof a Powerbook?)

I am also excited because the lil' citrus trees are planted. We got an orange, lime and lemon (I think, I am not sure since the label is gone. It does have monster thorns though.) The trees are supposed to be dwarf ones so there will be no ladders involved, making the whole go-out-and-get-breakfast thing much more appealing (no pun intended).

When we get everything done and in place the final images will be taken and upload but until then:
