Music, old and new

Recently, I have re-discovered Mellowdrone -- someone punted a link to me a while ago, and I downloaded their free EP from their site and was thoroughly enamored with their indie-pop sound. Well, I checked back and they have their new EP "Go Get 'Em Tiger" available for free download as well.

Particular outstanding songs:
Pretty Boy and my favorite,
I'm Too Young (which has been played at least 12 times since Friday. Yeah, I can be obsessive that way. But I can't help myself when there is the vocal reverb on.)

On their site, they have a video (QuickTime MP4; 33 MB) for their song Bonemarrow and it features a guy on a fire, a chimp and retro-seventies visual effects. What's not to love?

I was on iTunes checking out the new releases (which include new Postal Service EP (which has a Styrofoam remix -- oh happy day!) and a new Moby single!) I came across the "iTunes Essential" list for Gay Pride: Boys.

Ick. Obviously, who ever put this together is not a gay boy but someone older. Evidence: Diana Ross, 3 Donna Summer songs, ABBA, Soft Cell, Dead or Alive, Tina Turner and Boy George. All of those songs on the list are vintage 70s and 80s with only a few scraping the 90s. I am gay, I like disco, but to call this list "essential gay music for gay boys" is more than a little anachronistic.

I am here, I am queer, I don't own one Diana Ross record.

Another problem with this list...only three songs in that list are actually performed by by gay or gender-queer artists. As well as living in the past, I guess gay people don't make music for gay people either?
