ResFest: Highlights

This weekend ResFest came to town. I have gone before but not in the past few years, and I always regret it.

Some of the highlights from this show were:
  • Invisible Identity (Download - 23 MB | 2 minutes | QuickTime) from Syndrome Studios. It is a moving piece about identity, the homeless with great B&W Photography and cool motion graphics.
  • Sleeping Beauty (Download - 41 MB | 4 minutes | QuickTime) from Mk12. Mk12 makes me weak in the knees -- they are best in business. My buddy Metcalf turned me on to them a while ago, and I have been e-stalking them ever since. The video is basically a music video, but both low and hi-tech at the same time.
  • Rare Exports (Download - 67 MB | 5 minutes | QuickTime) from Woodpecker Films in Finland. It was one of the funniest things I have seen in a while. And appropriate for the season too!
  • Brand Spanking - a very clever short about what happens when schools are sponsored by corporations. (I couldn't hunt down a quicktime anywhere for it, but the second photo down is from right after Coca-Cola sponsored a history lesson about the pyramids, where the teacher goes on to explain that one of the biggest problem was the burning heat and nothing to quench their thirst.)

I wish I had the fortitude to sit through more of it but sitting through 75 minutes of blip-verts is a hefty dose indeed. (I was surprised, as an aside, how much a-rhythmic electronic music there was in all the pieces. 30 sec - fine, 30 min, not fine.)

Download quick before my ISP-Friend kicks my butt for bandwidth consumption!
