Moments that matter
My home life is very very odd right now (and not without a fair bit of stress.) So the mood indoors is shading everything I write.
One of my best friends came into town for business and it was good to spend some time with him. One of the little moments I found really shocking was when he scrolled through his wife's cell phone (he doesn't have one; he borrowed hers for the trip) and there was an entry for his 6 year old. Yes, his six year old boy has his own real working telephone that makes outbound calls. My friend told me his son answers on the first ring. Always.
Which blows me away -- to put things in perspective, my mom died when I was 8. I remember her (snippets here and there) but I don't really remember my life before then. So, it stands to reason that this kid will never know what life is like without a cell phone.
