New York, New York.

I am sure that my fanatical audience has been hitting "Reload" on their browsers frequently, cursing their sluggish internet connections to see the same old Shortwork page.So I apologize to all two of my readers.

You see, I have been in New York, working. At the last minute, my client asked if I could spend last week working through some process flows and project plans. Sure. So I spent most of time time sharing a cubical with an administrative assistant and using web outlook. I got to do very little fun stuff in New York -- there was enough work to keep me busy in the evenings.

But I did get to see my ex, S. who now works for A&E. It was good to see him -- we have a "history" which involves me acting like a jerk (my only excuse is that I was 21. Which isn't much of an excuse at all.) and not really doing the right thing.

He was shocked to find out that I teach spin classes. And no, there isn't yarn involved. I gave him two of my CDs and it seemed comfortable. Which was weird. Later, one of my friends asked me if I felt anything. S. was my most serious (although short) relationship other than M., and I thought about whether there was any spark. No -- I still care very deeply for him, but there is no zing! that I used to feel. I do feel a lot of nostalgia for a life that I could have pursued but didn't. S. got me into the world of media -- I helped produce a 30 minute featurette on That Thing You Do. (which is where I met Ethan Embry who is adorable but went out of his way to be freaky in real person. He was in one of those moods where you try to be extra weird to get attention.) Anyway, I can't help but think that with the relationship went a life in media. So, now I sit on my ThinkPad putting together project plans, requirement documents and process flow diagrams.

Adding to the nostalgia was reconnecting with an old college buddy of mine. We had lost touch and I re-lived all sorts of old college drama. Just a few items:

  • I bought a dog for B. (the first Max in my life) for his birthday since he really really wanted it; the dog lived in my apartment, we had no time to take care of it and I got no sleep; the dog was given to a very nice family 1 month later.

  • Another one of my Exes asked B out after dating me, B's roommate and another one of B's friends. B said no.

  • B. drove "the drunk van" at school, schlepping kids from frat party to dorm, just barely able to prevent from puking. The police looked the other way for the vans, allowing them to speed through Hyde Park.

  • What ever happened to medical school?

B. and I agree though on one point, thinking about how we would have changed our college careers. We would have been sluttier.
